I went out to walk Snickers a few days ago
and noticed something black in the grass.
I thought it was the top of one of our sprinkler heads.
As I walked over to take a look
I noticed it was a butterfly.
It wasn't moving and as I reached out to touch it
I realized one of its wings was broken.
I picked up the butterfly and took it over to one of my containers of flowers,
placed it in amongst the green leaves and took some pictures.
Black and white on the upper side
with similar markings on the underside and also a bit of orange.
I checked out the markings on a Safari site and also
sent a message to Eileen who helped me identify it as a
Black Swallowtail Butterfly.
Reading further I found the Swallowtail favors Queen Anne Lace
and right now we have many of these flowers on our roadside banks.
I couldn't just throw the butterfly away.
I have it inside sitting near the window with some flowers.
I am feeling torn . . . like a broken wing.
Stunningly beautiful, not sure what I should do . . . any ideas?
